Delaware County Council Votes to Approve Zero Waste Master Plan
Last Wednesday, Delaware County Council voted to approve the Zero Waste Master Plan presented by the Office of Sustainability. The plan is an important roadmap to reducing the county’s overall waste and the human and environmental health impacts from it. You can read the full Zero Waste plan here. The plan includes key life cycle analysis findings:
- Incineration in Chester has $193 more human health and environmental costs per ton of waste disposed than that of directly landfilling at Rolling Hills landfill.
- Incineration was 23x worse than landfilling when looking at health costs alone!
Now we need to pressure Delco Council to fund this plan! Especially to expand the transfer stations that will allow for trash diversion from the incinerator, composting, and enhanced recycling.
