CHOICES Environmental Justice Youth Summit 2026

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, CHOICES hosted the Environmental Justice Youth Summit at the Booker T. Washington Center. This was a wonderful event for young environmentalists and advocates. The day was packed with discussions, performances, and hands-on activities, all aimed at empowering the next generation to take action for a sustainable future.

The summit officially kicked off with introductions by CHOICES leadership Nolan, Jamira, and Dahkeem. CHOICES member Terreona also shared the mission statement and explained the essence of CHOICES, a youth leadership organization dedicated to fostering environmental justice. Another CHOICES member, Ja’Sii, then led the group in a powerful affirmation, leaving everyone motivated and ready to dive into the day’s events. Attendees were also provided with an EJ vocabulary sheet to enhance their understanding and engagement throughout the summit.

Next, participants were immersed in a workshop session led by Carl from Climate Action PA, focusing on civic engagement with the local incinerator and the Stop Trashing Our Air Act. Each student had the opportunity to voice their concerns directly to Mayor Parker via her social media account and let her know how the incinerator’s pollution is affecting them.

There was also a captivating performance by YG Till, energizing the crowd with his passionate song. Following the performance, Jarue introduced the concept of regenerative composting and offered practical insights on how attendees could implement sustainable waste practices in their own homes.

The afternoon session began with a screening of the Plastic Pollution Project led by Yashvi, Terreona, Adriel, and Javonta. The viewing was followed by a thoughtful discussion that encouraged attendees to consider innovative solutions to combat plastic waste. Then, Rikeyah Lindsay presented the Village Restoration Project, inspiring the audience with her dedication to community revitalization and environmental stewardship.

Overall, the EJ Summit was a success, showcasing the power of youth engagement in shaping a more equitable and sustainable future. The combination of educational sessions, artistic performances, and interactive projects created an empowering environment for all participants. We can not wait for next year!
