Action held outside of Mayor Parker’s Town Hall
Yesterday, we held a protest outside of Mayor Parker’s Town Hall meeting at the Victory Christian Center, hoping that she would recognize the importance of supporting the Stop Trashing Our Air Act (Bill #250768). Mayor Parker has been actively obstructing this bill and we know that the incinerator owner has been actively lobbying city officials to put a stop to it. The bill is currently on hold as council reviews waste contracts.

Philly currently sends 1/3 of their waste to be burned at Reworld/Covanta in Chester, the largest trash incinerator in the U.S and the biggest polluter in Delco, which causes major health-related issues for Chester residents and beyond. This peaceful action outside with signs was to demonstrate support for the bill and call on Mayor Parker to stop burning Philly’s trash and polluting the region. As you may have heard, the American Lung Association just gave Philadelphia a ‘F’ for air quality, with the city among the worst in the country for levels of particulate pollution that can cause lung and heart issues.
If you missed this action encourage you to contact Philadelphia City Council members! Contact info and call script below. Learn more here.

I am calling to encourage Councilmember ______ to vote in support of the Stop Trashing Our Air Act. For far too long, Philadelphia has burned their trash in the City of Chester, contributing to pollution and devastating health-related issues for the city and region. Nearly 1/3 of the materials incinerated at the nation’s largest trash incinerator is from Philly. Burning Philadelphia’s trash is making Chester, Philadelphia, and other communities around our region sick. Incineration is the most polluting and expensive way to manage waste. Philadelphia region just got graded a F for air quality by the American Lung Association. The American Lung Association says the Philly area is among the worst in the country for levels of a pollutant that can cause lung and heart issues. Please vote to permanently ban the practice of trash incineration with Philly’s solid waste. (We encourage you to add personal notes to this).
