Environmental Education Day Recap

On Sunday, July 12th, we had a fun filled day with games, kids’ activities, and environmental justice education. While the kids played games, we were able to talk to the adults about the environmental impact that a future LNG plant would have on the area.
We had multiple environmental organizations there, such as the Sierra Club and Delaware River Keepers, which were also educating the attendees about the harms of LNG and how it would affect the area. We also had multiple stations with visual aids to help explain the detrimental impacts of having an LNG plant. These visual aids helped to demonstrate how many businesses and residential homes would be damaged if an explosion were to occur.

And even though we faced some opposition at this family friendly event, most of the residents walked away understanding how dangerous this would be if allowed into Eddystone. Eddystone Council members continue to deny that an LNG facility is coming there, but through right-to-know requests filed by Delaware River Keepers, we know that there have been previous talks about it. They continue to deny any involvement. Eddystone is already an area packed to the brim with polluters, but having another one come in of this magnitude would not only affect Eddystone residents but also all neighboring communities.
This is why we were encouraging residents at this event to speak out at council meetings and let them know that they vehemently oppose having this entity come to their neighborhood.
